Adiabatic cooling for supermarkets and retail stores

Adiabatic cooling can be used in many sectors. Why in supermarkets and...

Maintain a comfortable temperature while drastically reducing your environmental footprint and energy costs? Find out how Adelaide Central Market solved this challenge by adopting an adiabatic cooling solution. It's probably the right solution for you!

The Central Market in Adelaide, Australia, is one of the city's most iconic venues, offering access to multicultural cuisine and a wide variety of fresh produce across 8,000 square meters.

The market was facing a major problem: the efficiency of the evaporative coolers (operating with a different system than those installed by Bioclimas) was insufficient, resulting in increased humidity and temperatures in the building. These problems were of particular concern given the importance of fresh produce quality to the health of customers. It was therefore imperative to find a solution to maintain an ambient temperature of around 22°C and a relative humidity level of 50%.

The proposed solution was to replace the old cooling systems with a more efficient technology to preserve the freshness of the products, the comfort of the merchants and the health of the customers, while drastically limiting the energy costs and the environmental impact.

Seeley International's Climate Wizard, the cooling ultra-high performance indirect adiabatic system, which cools the air without adding moisture, was chosen to meet this challenge. This solution was particularly suited to the high temperatures in the Adelaide area.

Beyond the installation of the system, the teams faced challenges such as the building's geographic location and the power limitations of the site. But since installing Climate Wizard, the results have been remarkable:

  • The air temperature can be reduced by 20°C compared to the outside air in case of high temperatures,
  • The air is totally clean and healthy because it is 100% filtered,
  • The cooling performance is up to 3 times higher than that of a conventional cooling system.

The Adelaide Central Market is a perfect example of how important the necessary efficiency of a cooling system is to preserve product quality and customer health, while reducing environmental impact and saving money.

No matter what your industry and needs are, there will always be a cooling system that fits your project and the potential conditions imposed by your building. This case is a perfect example.
